Pacing for the Reduction of AF and Heart failure

Pacemaker therapy is successful as the treatment for bradycardia and cardiac arrest. However incidence of Atrial fibrillation and heart failure in patients with implanted pacemakers are high during long-term follow-up. Atrial fibrillation is detected in almost half of the patients with implanted pacemakers by monitoring function of the devices. As the results, incidence of cardiogenic stroke is high in patients with implanted pacemakers. Cardiogenic stroke may be great problems in aged population. Heart failure is also great problems in patients with implanted pacemakers. Development of heart failure may be associated with right ventricular pacing. Many efforts for reduction of atrial fibrillation and heart failure have been tried. Pacing sites, pacing algorithm may be key issues for reduction of atrial fibrillation and heart failure. However, results of studies about these problems are controversial. We want to know how to reduce atrial fibrillation and heart failure in patients with implanted pacemakers for better quality of life and prognosis of the patients.

In this symposium, we want to discuss about these issue and we hope these problems associated with long-term pacing therapy are solved.
